On Tuesday the 9th of May rooms 6,7 and 8 traveled to the AUT Millennium in a bus.
Before we got there excitement just suddenly arrived on my face. When we got there Room six, seven, and eight were divided up into four groups. There were four activities too, one was rock climbing, the second one was athletics, the third one was kayaking and the last one was water safety.
The first activity that my group went to was rock climbing. As we were waiting for our harnesses we were watching our instructor put the harness on. We were given our own harness and we learnt how to attach our harnesses onto the rope. The first step was to hold the handle where the hocks would go. The second step was to tighten clips on the harness cause that’s what would hold your weight. The third step was to attach the hooks to your handle of the harness, one up on the top and one at the bottom.
Then after we had finish those steps for our rock climbing safety I got to the part where we started climbing. One person had to climb while your partner pulls you up. You also have to attach and tighten the clips for your partner to help you get to the top of the wall. It was scary but fun. As you come down your partner controls how fast you come down. There was a handle for the control of how you come down.
You just had to adjust the handle for your partner to come down.
You have to put your weight on the harness and hold on so that your partner knows you're ready to come down and signal them to. As we kept climbing up and coming down my calves and thighs were aching. But It was quite fun and amusing.
It was enjoyable and I was quite surprised they had a rock climbing area. What I liked about it the most was team work because my group and my partner was working as a team and cooperating.
