Polygons

During our Maths class today I’ve made polygons with the matariki stars. On this spreadsheet I have made 19 polygons , I’ve made 13 triangles , 5 diamonds and one hexagon. I have connected almost all of the matariki stars. This activity was fun and interesting.

The lonely Tourist

One by one two by two I was stepping closer to my unknown destination . Trying to run away from the eruption around my neighborhood, I packed my bag and left In a sudden matter of time. Unknowing where I’m going to lead to I just had to hurry. I could feel a good spirit coming towards this unknown adventure.

As I left not knowing where everyone else went to i kept carrying on. Leaving myself as the lonely tourist. Exhausted from the long walk I then fell asleep right where I was. When I was sleeping it felt like I was drifting away with the wind which made me wake up. As I kept walking after my nap, I came across an airplane which I never have thought I would of came across. I sprinted to the airplane but I stopped and looked again and one side of It was unfortunately broken.

I stopped and ate some snacks,  And saw a lot of supplies like a health kit , food and clothes.

I wondered who left all the usable stuff.. So I took all the supplies and headed off.

When I left I felt a chill ram down my back, I then stopped and put my jumpers on.

Into the mist

Humming as she walked into the mist with a whisper… Just a torch and the mist all by herself. As she was slowly gliding Into the mist, deeper and deeper she found herself bumping Into a pirate ship with fear! She new It wasn't right to be there. She walked Into the pirate ship and looked for help..

As she was walking someone In the darkness of the Ship said “ Hey you need help getting out of this place? Everyone left because there was a disruption a few years ago and now this Is a long lost place” He said in a whisper, She asked, “How do you know? Have you lived here?” He replied with “ Ohhhh sweet child i’ve lived here my whole entire life!  

So she followed this man out of the mist because…. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!!

This man told her that he couldn't leave because he lived here his whole life. He has to become a spirit to enjoy the outside world. That's the rules of his relation. He said “ So? You have to die to enjoy other parts of the world?What? That's so cruel!” I know I know but there's more here than out there, He said.  

“Ughhh”, She said, oh well It was time to head back to the road again. My journey Is finished with a joyful smile on her face. Bye bye.

As soon as i grabbed the Blueberry I had a feeling it wasn't going to be great! It felt really cold and hard. I put the blueberry near my mouth and

It smelt like rubbish! It looked purple and watery. When I took a bite at the blueberry it tasted sour and tangy. It melted in my mouth like nothing even happened.

Personal Recount

A Personal Recount can retell personal experience or record details of an event at which the writer was present. When writing a recount it is important to get things in the order in which they happened (chronological order ).

Here is an example of a recount. Notice the words used to link the ideas of the time when things happened.

My Fantail Friend.

We have a lot of native trees around our place and lots of birds. I was sick in bed for a long time last winter and got to know some of the birds well.

Everyday a fantail used to perch on a frame under the eaves outside my window and chatter to me. I know it was not my imagination that this chepping would get more and more insistent until I spoke to him. One day he brought another fantail to meet me. They both took my mind of how i was feeling unwell and I laughed at their cheeky antics.

In the fourth term I went back to school and did not see so much of the fantails although I would sometimes sit on the back step after school and they flittered around the ponga trees beside me. Mum “said they went back at school”. We went away for most for the summer and came back a week before school started. I didn't see fantails the first day back.    

The next day, the same thing happened. I rang a friend of ours who belongs to the Forest and Bird Society and asked what I could do for the fantail. She said it might have lost it’s mate and if it hadn't settled in another couple days, to ring the SPCA. They have the contact number for Bird Rescue.

The median is the middle score or number. To find the median, scores must be placed in order from the smallest to biggest. Start counting one off each end, until you have one score in left in the middle.

For example: The results from the class test are listed below.

6 ,8 ,10 ,10 ,9 ,7 ,5

What is the median or ‘middle‘ score? 6,8,10,10,9,7,5,

In this example, scores are put into order would be…

5,6,7,8,9,10,10

Then, start counting one off each end, keep going until you have one score left in the middle.

What number is in the middle of this list? The middle number is the median.

Answer:  The number 8 is the median.

Action Verbs

An Action Verb is often following by a noun or pronoun that is the direct object. It receives action denoted by verb.

In our class some of the people will not stop talking! And some of them do not do their work in the classroom. Instead they play games and then they get in trouble from our teacher.

Aliteration

Many poets use aliteration, words of the same beginning sound, to stress an important part of the poem. Sometimes the same sound appear next to each other in the same line.

The digestive system

        Functions of the Digestive System

The digestive system is responsible for breaking down food we eat into smaller Components so that nutrients can be Easily absorbed by body and the Waste discarded.

There are two types of digestion. Mechanical digestion is the physical breakdown of large pieces of food into small pieces through and chewing.

While chemical digestion uses enzymes to break down this food mass further into small molecules which the body can separate and use.

Functions of the heart

The main function of the heart is to pump blood through the body. Also to provide oxygen rich blood required to live. The heart is made up of four different blood filled areas or chambers. There are two chambers on the top are the left and right atrium. The ones at the bottom are left and right ventricles.

The de oxygenated blood enters the heart through the right atrium. It then flows into the right venricle and gets pumped to the lungs. Where it gets oxygentated again.

Parts of the heart

Vena Cava - carries de oxygenated blood from the body to the heart. Semilunar Valve - Flaps that prevent backflow of left Atrium - recives oxygenated blood from the lungs.

Left ventricle - region of the heart that pumps blood to the body.

Pulmonary Artery - carries blood to the lungs.

Right ventricle - region of the heart that pumps blood to the lungs.

Pulmonary vein - carries blood from the lungs.

Right Vein - segment of the heart that receives deoxygenated blood.

Aorta - The main artery carrying blood to all parts of the body.

Facts about skin

Facts about skin If skin is severely damaged then it may try to heal by forming scar tissue. Scar tissue is not the same as normal skin tissue, it often appears discoloured and lacks sweat glands and hair. The colour of human skin depends on the amount of pigment melanin that the body produces. Small amounts of melanin result in light skin while large amounts of melanin, result in dark skin. When you’re feeling hot your skin sweats. As the sweats evaporates, it cools your body off. Fingernails and hair are made of a substance called keratin. The only part of the hair and nail that’s alive and is the part growing under the skin. This explains why it doesn't hurt to cut your hair or nails. A large amount of the dust in your home is actually dead skin.

Traditional maori Legends. Maui and the fish. Maui is one of the most famous characters in maori folklore. This legend tells how Maui caught a huge fish which eventually became the north island ( Te. Ika a-Maui ) of the New Zealand the canoe or waka from which he caught the fish became the south island ( Te. Ika a-Maui ) Maui was not a keen fisherman, and he also had the reputation of being a c Trickster. For these reasons his older brothers hated taking him with them when they went fishing. He was always playing practical jokes and would often question the authority of his elders. One day Maui’s wife was nagging him to do something. She told him he was lazy, and said that he should help her with the chores. Maui became tired of her nagging and decided that he too would go out to fish the great oceans of tangaroa. Before leaving to go fishing, Maui went to the sacred burial cave of his ancestors. He took the jaw bone of his grandmother and fashioned a very special fish from it. Then he set out the in his canoe. When he arrived at the fishing grounds Maui’s brothers refused to give him any bait, but this did not deter Maui. He made his nose bleed, and dripped blood onto his hook. Then he cast his line into the sea. Before long a fish took his bait. Maui struggled hard and eventually me managed to haul it up. It was the biggest fish anyone had ever seen. Today Maui”s fish, Te. Ika a-Maui, still remains on the surface of the sea. According to Ngati porou Tradition of the first part of the fish to break the surface of the water was the summit of Mt. Hikurangi. It was the first point to see the sun. And today Mt. Hikurangi, on the east coast, is the first place to see the sun each and morning.
